AIMPACT message, April 28 (UTC+8): Microsoft and OpenAI have made major adjustments to their cooperation model. Microsoft will no longer have exclusive access to OpenAI’s models and products; OpenAI can now offer its products and services to any cloud provider. This marks a significant change in the cooperation landscape between the two: Microsoft had previously been OpenAI’s exclusive cloud services provider and technology licensing partner, but under the new agreement, OpenAI can now freely partner with other large companies. Even so, Microsoft still retains its stake in OpenAI (valued at over $135B) and will continue to use OpenAI technology through a licensing agreement running until 2032.
