$HYPE has bounced back to around $58, up roughly 1.87 percent over the past day, and this recovery attempt is unfolding right in the middle of a genuinely mixed fundamentals picture worth unpacking carefully.
The unstaking event getting attention checks out closely, though the precise figures circulating vary slightly by source. Multicoin Capital unstaked approximately 1.96 million HYPE, worth around $120 million, across three separate wallets on July 22, with one of those wallets depositing a portion, roughly 395,570 HYPE worth about $23.8 million, into Coinbase Prime. The fund had accumulated its position months earlier at an average price near $30, so even after unstaking, this remains a deeply profitable holding. A Multicoin partner has stated the move was routine wallet rotation and privacy management rather than a sale, and it's worth noting that unstaking itself only makes tokens transferable after Hyperliquid's seven-day unbonding queue, it doesn't confirm a sale actually occurred. That said, the timing drew real scrutiny since it came less than a month after the firm had published a bullish long-term valuation report on HYPE.
The ETF flow reversal is also confirmed and represents a genuine shift in trend. Spot HYPE ETFs saw roughly $7.26 million in net outflows over the prior week, ending a nine-week streak of consecutive net inflows. That's a meaningful inflection point, nine straight weeks of inflows had been one of the stronger institutional demand signals for the token, and this pause, while not a heavy selling wave on its own, does suggest institutional buying has cooled rather than continuing to accelerate.
The technical picture lines up with a token searching for footing after breaking down from a longer consolidation pattern. HYPE had been trading inside a symmetrical triangle for several weeks before the recent pullback dragged it below that structure's support, though it's held above the $54 to $55 ascending trendline zone through the decline. A daily oversold reading paired with a MACD bottom divergence, price making a fresh 30-day low without momentum confirming that low, is a classic early signal that selling pressure may be losing steam, though it's not yet confirmation of a reversal.
There's a countervailing structural factor worth weighing against this bearish-leaning fund flow data. Hyperliquid's protocol has surpassed $1 billion in cumulative revenue, and roughly 99 percent of trading fees continue routing into open-market HYPE buybacks through the platform's Assistance Fund. That buyback mechanism has reportedly held reserves several times larger than recent monthly unlocks, and longer-term holders have pointed to pullbacks like this one as accumulation opportunities precisely because of that ongoing demand floor. Regulatory scrutiny adds a separate layer of pressure too, Singapore's monetary authority added Hyperliquid to an investor alert list in late June, following earlier UK warnings, and derivatives industry executives have pushed US regulators to review the platform's commodity perpetual offerings.
For anyone tracking HYPE on Gate, the practical read here is that this bounce is happening against a backdrop of real institutional caution, cooling ETF demand and a large holder reducing exposure, not a clean fundamental catalyst. The buyback mechanism and oversold technical setup offer a case for stabilization, but confirming whether this is genuine reversal or just a pause within a larger correction likely depends on whether ETF flows turn positive again and whether the $54 to $55 support zone continues to hold on any renewed test.
