At least 29 crypto exchange apps were banned from being installed in South Korea’s Google Store.
PANews July 26, according to Digital Asset, besides OKX and Bybit, at least 29 overseas crypto derivatives exchange apps are no longer available for new installation in South Korea on the Google Play Store, including MEXC, KuCoin, BingX, Gemini, BTCC, Phemex, Bitmex, etc. The report said that when searching for these apps in the Play Store, they show prompts such as “not available” or “residential region not available.” Of the 29, 14 had previously been listed by the South Korean FIU as unregistered VASPs that had not been reported and were notified to law enforcement agencies, while the other 15 had not been reported but were also blocked by the Play Store. Since January this year, Google has suspended region-based support for virtual asset service provider apps that are not registered with the FIU in accordance with its own policies. The removal from the Play Store does not affect access and installation on the exchanges’ web pages or via the Apple App Store.
