Cryptocurrency remittances in El Salvador account for only 0.7% of the total, but increased by 39.1% year over year.

PANews July 26 news, citing News.bitcoin, data released by the Central Bank of El Salvador shows that in the first half of 2026, only $35.4 million in external remittances were sent into the country through digital currency channels. This figure accounts for just 0.7% of the country’s total remittances received in 2026 (more than $5 billion). Even so, the number of crypto remittances remains far higher than in the first half of 2025, when crypto remittances totaled $25.4 million, up 39.1%.
