#IntelQ2RevenueSurges25%
Intel has just shared its growth in 15 years. Here’s what actually caught my attention. Intel’s second quarter results were much better than people expected. Revenue reached $16.13 billion, a 25% rise compared to the time last year and way more than the $14.43 billion that analysts had predicted. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.42, which's double the $0.21 that people expected. The stock responded away going up more than 13% in after-hours trading.
What makes these results stand out is not the numbers that beat expectations. It is where the growth is coming from.
The AI part of the business is doing most of the work. Data center and AI revenue went up 59% compared to the year reaching $6.26 billion. This rate of growth is than twice the company’s overall revenue increase. Foundry revenue also sped up going up 31% to $5.8 billion after growing 16% in the last quarter.
These two areas together show a picture: demand linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure is appearing in Intel’s real results not just in talk.
The leaderships message was clear. CEO Lip-Bu Tan was straightforward. He said AI is causing " computing demand" and that supply problems are likely to keep going for the near future. This kind of talk from a company that has spent years trying to get to being a leader in process technology has weight. It shows that the current demand situation is not seen as temporary inside the company.
Future Plans
Intel said that third quarter revenue would be between $15.8 billion and $16.8 billion which's higher than the $15.06 billion that people were expecting. The updated forecast helped support the idea that the strong performance in the quarter might last into the second half of the year.
My Opinion
I have watched Intel have a time convincing the market that its recovery was real. One good quarter does not solve that argument. What it does show is that the AI spending wave is big enough to make a difference for a company still working on catching up.
The 13% rise in after-hours trading shows relief much as excitement. Investors had started to expect disappointment. A clean beat with AI and foundry results was enough to change the mood in the short term.
I am looking at this as a sign rather than a permanent change in the story. The next few quarters will be more important than this one. If the Data Center and AI part of the business keeps growing at this speed and the foundry momentum stays the story, around Intel will continue to improve. If the growth slows the doubt will come back quickly.
For now the numbers are hard to ignore.
