#UStoImpose10To12.5PercentTariffsOn60Economies
US To Impose 10 To 12.5 Percent Tariffs On 60 Economies Full Breakdown And Market Impact
US will impose new tariffs of 10 percent and 12.5 percent on goods from 60 trading partners from July 24 2026 at 12:01 am Eastern. Move comes as temp 10 percent global tariff ends. It is one of the widest tariff acts in years, covering 99.4 percent of all US imports.
Why now. USTR office led by Jamieson Greer ran probes under Section 301 of 1974 Trade Act into 60 economies to see if they ban imports made by forced labor. USTR said on June 2 that all 60 failed to impose and effectively enforce a ban in a manner that is not reasonable and limits US commerce. Result is new duties that replace old emergency levies struck down by high court in Feb.
Rate split.
10 percent for economies that have or commit to a forced labor import ban.
12.5 percent for all others.
Both rates add on top of existing most favored duties for many partners, but EU is among few where new levy does not stack on top of most favored rate per deal made in 2025 at Turnberry.
Who is on list. List counts EU as one economy, plus China, India, Pakistan, South Korea at 12.5 percent, Japan, Philippines, Bangladesh, plus ASEAN states and many more. In total 60 economies. South Korea case drew wide press because 12.5 percent rate applies there. EU, India and China also named.
Timeline.
March USTR opens 301 probes.
June 2 USTR finds failure for all 60.
June 3 proposal floated for 10 to 12.5 percent.
July 7 hearings held.
July 23 USTR says new tariffs will start.
July 24 12:01 am Eastern duties take effect.
Exemptions include certain goods under Section 232, qualifying USMCA goods and select exempt items.
Reaction.
Bank of France head said tariffs add more uncertainty for world economy even if EU deal from 2025 holds. EU Commission gave guarded welcome, noting alignment with forced labor goals. Trading partners from Asia to Europe protested, calling claim over forced labor lax enforcement unfair. Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and EU all issued notes.
Market impact.
One inflation risk up. Tariff of 10 to 12.5 percent on 99.4 percent of imports can lift input costs. US rates market now eyes Fed meet July 28 to 29. Higher costs may keep US 10 year elevated near 4.69 percent.
Two supply chain shift. Firms may reroute via USMCA or via exempt lines. Near shoring talk back.
Three risk assets wobble. Equities and crypto often dip on tariff news then bounce if exemptions widen. BTC held near 66000 zone during first tariff headlines, showing relative resilience vs trade exposed stocks.
How to act on Gate.
Gate runs 24/7 while tariff news hits at odd hours. For active traders, use Gate spot and perp with tight risk, set alerts for news prints. Keep leverage low during headline vol.
For idle funds, Gate GUSD offers 3.8 percent base yield plus dual earn via Launchpool pools around 16 percent, so cash waiting for dip still works. Mint GUSD with USDT at 1 to 1 on Gate and keep in Spot for auto base yield.
Long view. USTR used forced labor ban as tool under 301 to revive tariffs after court block. This opens door for more sector duties later. Watch July 24 start and watch any court challenges that follow.
In short US new tariffs of 10 to 12.5 percent on 60 economies from July 24 mark a major trade shift. It covers almost all imports, hits key partners like EU, China, India, Korea, and will shape costs and flows for months. Trade it with plan on Gate and keep risk tight.
