Korean storage “two powerhouses” land dual mega AI orders
They just finished dropping the day before, and the next day gets slapped by two big orders
Anthropic simultaneously signed with Samsung and SK hynix, with long-term supply plus strategic investment; Opus 5 was also released the same day, delivering near-leading performance at half the price
On the same day, Nvidia announced a $1 billion investment in Naver to build an AI data center, and also partnered with SK Group to co-build a 2-gigawatt computing cluster
Yesterday I said the AI chip competition landscape is fragmented, and not all storage vendors can benefit proportionally; after these orders come out, this judgment needs to be revised
By locking both Samsung and SK hynix, Anthropic shows that the strategy of the leading AI companies isn’t picking a side—it’s dual insurance. The priority of supply chain security has already surpassed price-bargaining leverage with any single supplier
On Nvidia’s side, the $1 billion investment to build computing clusters means the required storage scale isn’t a small order
The buyer’s stock price is worrying about capital expenditures, while the seller’s orders and guidance are strengthening in sync; the correlation between the two is close to zero. This divergence has appeared only a few times in semiconductor history, and each time it has signaled that market concerns about AI hardware demand are emotional—actual orders are what matter
Add Intel’s Q3 guidance beating expectations, jumping 13% after hours, and Qualcomm announcing double-digit price hikes—the demand signals on the supply side are so dense it’s hard to ignore
My view is that this time, Korean stocks will see a fairly obvious repricing
The pullback the day before was the market digesting anxiety about the competitive landscape brought by AMD’s new chips, but this batch of orders directly delivers a fundamental rebuttal
SK hynix and Samsung aren’t waiting for AI demand—they’re already locking in orders. The speed of sentiment switching in the short term may be fairly fast; it’s not ruled out that the market will open and immediately make up yesterday’s decline
The takeaway is: if you’re bullish on this direction, right now is actually a more suitable entry window than yesterday
But there’s one prerequisite to think through: are you buying a short-term sentiment reversal, or a mid-term fundamental catch-up. The former is betting on a quick repair after these orders get digested; the latter requires waiting for Anthropic’s and Nvidia’s actual procurement volumes to materialize in earnings report data—both logics can be valid, but the holding time and risk-control setup are completely different
Here I won’t go flat; the bias is long, following the pace of the orders
