“Lean Ethereum” – Vitalik’s Vision for the Next Decade

On July 4, Vitalik Buterin unveiled the “Lean Ethereum” roadmap – the biggest redesign since The Merge in 2022.

What’s inside:

· Overhauls validation, cryptography, finality, and state storage – almost every core module gets rebuilt.
· Rollout is planned over the next 3–4 years in phases, not a single upgrade.
· New directions include native recursive STARK verification and anonymous staking (EIP-8222).

Plus, the Glamsterdam hard fork (expected in Q3) aims to raise the gas limit from ~60M to 200M – the single largest scaling bump since The Merge.

🧠 Food for thought: Layer 2 scaling has already cut mainnet fee revenue sharply. Will “Lean Ethereum” further weaken the “ETH‑as‑ultrasound‑money” narrative? Where will ETH capture value in the future?
