APEC Releases Joint Statement on AI Development Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region

PANews July 24 news: According to CCTV News, China issued a statement with various member economies at the APEC High-Level Forum on Artificial Intelligence held in Chengdu, Sichuan, reaffirming its commitment to advance the “2040 APEC Putrajaya Vision,” the “APEC Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap,” and the “APEC Artificial Intelligence Initiative (2026—2030).” The statement proposes four areas of cooperation: first, to promote safety-prioritized AI development, build reliable, scalable and secure AI and digital infrastructure, and facilitate cross-border data flows to enhance trust among users and businesses; second, to accelerate responsible AI applications in areas such as trade, customs modernization and enterprise competitiveness, and to strengthen AI education and training across society; third, to create a market-oriented, innovation-driven policy environment, supporting open-source models and projects within frameworks for security, data protection and intellectual property; fourth, to enhance capacity building and knowledge sharing, promote cooperation between the public and private sectors, ensure broad participation by member economies in AI-driven economies, and continue AI policy dialogue under the APEC Digital Economy guidance group framework.
