ME News message, July 24 (UTC+8). Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang posted his first personal tweet, sharing an open letter titled “Open Weights and U.S. AI Leadership,” jointly signed by 20-plus technology companies and institutions including Nvidia. The open letter argues that open-weights models can expand access to the AI economy, strengthen market competition, and give users more control. Signatories include Meta, Microsoft, Andreessen Horowitz, Hugging Face, IBM, Mistral AI, Palantir, Perplexity, Mozilla, Y Combinator, and others. The letter says that while open-weights models carry risks, they should not be limited or banned to prevent development; instead, open approaches should be used to improve AI safety and cybersecurity capabilities. Huang said: “The world needs state-of-the-art closed-source models, and it also needs state-of-the-art open models.” (Source: ChainCatcher)
