ME AI news: Driven by profit growth from the AI boom and the impact of U.S. tariff policies, Korean companies are launching the largest wave of overseas investment and M&A to the United States in recent years. Data from South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance shows that in the first quarter of this year, Korean companies’ actual foreign direct investment (FDI) in the U.S. increased by more than one-fold year-on-year to $10.2 billion, the highest level in nearly five years. Companies benefiting from AI infrastructure build-outs, including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, are accelerating their plans for the U.S. AI industry chain. Samsung has already taken part in financing rounds for ZutaCore, an AI data center liquid cooling company, and Groq, an AI chip company; SK hynix plans to invest $10B in U.S. innovative companies. Investment bank insiders believe that against the backdrop of Chinese buyers withdrawing from the U.S. large technology M&A market, Korean companies are entering a “golden period” for M&A in the United States.
