U.S. Democratic Senator: The Republican CLARITY Act ethics provisions draft is not a serious proposal
ME News — On July 24 (UTC+8), U.S. Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego said he will work with Republicans to put forward a counterproposal regarding the ethical provisions in the “Digital Asset Market Clarity Act” (CLARITY Act) that have been endorsed by the White House. He said the draft released this week is “not a serious proposal.”
On Wednesday, Republican senators in the U.S. Senate released the proposed text of the CLARITY Act. The ethical provisions prohibit all U.S. federal officials, including U.S. President Donald Trump, from issuing or sponsoring any digital assets. Democrats believe the relevant ethical provisions are insufficient.
Republican Senator Bernie Moreno denied that the provisions are weak, saying the draft includes “the strongest ethical language in U.S. history.” Gallego said he will work with Senators Thom Tillis and other Republicans to advance the counterproposal and submit a new version of the text.
