What you said is a bit contradictory—if you’re clearly thinking about shorting for profit, why would you also buy spot to lose? It should be that you short on the futures/contract: the money you make from the short buys spot. In other words, if shorting is profitable, you keep shorting it and use the earnings to buy spot. That way you’re at least not losing. Even if one day the contract doesn’t drop or you miss your timing, you can temporarily stop and play it by ear with contracts—at least the spot you bought with the profits is still in your hands. No panic, whether it goes up or down 😇
