Coinbase has enabled enterprise customers to receive payments from AI agents via the x402 protocol
PANews July 24, 2024, according to CoinDesk, Coinbase will start this week allowing its institutional clients to accept payments from AI agents via the x402 protocol, which was developed and incubated by Coinbase. Coinbase Business users do not need any additional setup to let agents pay with USDC, supported by Coinbase Payments. Coinbase Business leadership said it is building payment experiences similar to traditional shopping scenarios for a new online agent economy—after the agent creates a wallet, it can shop, while enterprises provide services through an agent-friendly checkout flow.
Coinbase also offers agent trading features for users: users can issue instructions in natural language, and the agent will monitor the market in real time and execute trades. Developers can use the new x402 SDK from the Coinbase Developer Platform to add x402 payment acceptance functionality to any API or web service within 3 lines of code.
