#TeslaHolds11509BTCFor4Years
Tesla Holds 11,509 BTC for 4 Years Without Selling ✨
Tesla's Bitcoin position has remained virtually unchanged for almost four years. The company maintained its 11,509 BTC holdings during Q2, neither buying nor selling. This stance is seen as a continuation of the wait-and-see strategy adopted after the large sell-off in mid-2022.
🔹 Current holdings are 11,509 BTC and have remained at the same level for 4 years.
🔹 Bitcoin fell from approximately $83,000 to $58,000 in the quarter, a drop of approximately 14%.
🔹 This decline resulted in an after-tax loss of approximately $112 million.
🔹 The loss occurred due to the fair value measurement rule on the accounting side and did not result from sales.
🔹 By the end of the reporting period, Bitcoin had recovered to around $65,840, but this recovery was not reflected in the quarterly loss.
Tesla reached 43,200 BTC with a $1.5 billion purchase at the beginning of 2021, then sold approximately three-quarters of this holding in 2022. The position has remained constant since then.
In Q2 financials, revenue came in above expectations at $28.2 billion, but adjusted earnings per share were $0.33, below the expected $0.55. Vehicle deliveries reached 480,126 units, representing an increase of approximately 25 percent year-on-year, marking one of the strongest quarters on record. Free cash flow, however, was negative $1.1 billion, attributed to investments in the AI robotaxi and Optimus projects.
Under the current accounting framework, FASB regulations require companies to report digital assets at market price at the end of each quarter. Therefore, a loss was recorded when the quarter-end price closed at $58,000. A similar loss of $173 million was recorded in Q1.
With this stance, Tesla is exhibiting one of the longest-term institutional Bitcoin holding examples and continues to maintain its position despite selling pressure.
