Robotics company Atoms completes $1.7 billion funding round led by a16z

PANews July 23 news, according to Gelonghui, robot company Atoms, under Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, completed a round of $1.7 billion in financing. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and Ben Horowitz will join the board of directors. Equity investors in this round include Bain Capital, Fifth Wall, Chemistry, A*, K5 Global, Abstract, SV Angel, Alpha Square Group, and Uber. Horowitz said the rationale for this investment focuses on dedicated robots rather than humanoid robots. He noted that in heavy industry, dedicated robots are far more suitable than humanoid robots for completing most tasks.
