⚠️An attack hit the AFX cross-chain bridge in the ARB ecosystem, and 24.15 million USDC was stolen

On July 23, an AFX cross-chain bridge in the Arbitrum ecosystem was compromised. By taking control of signatures from 5 hot validators to bypass protection, 24.15 million USDC was stolen and bridged to Ethereum, then exchanged at market price for 12,467.4 ETH.

Community panic is intensifying, dealing a short-term blow to AFX users’ confidence

Key points to observe long-term changes in third-party cross-chain protocol usage preferences within the Arbitrum ecosystem

The vulnerability lies in a third-party AFX-built bridge; the Arbitrum main bridge is secure and there is no underlying-chain risk

The attacker rapidly swapped the stablecoin into ETH, anticipated the freezing measures, and is expected to be closely monitored going forward for actions involving coin mixing and multi-chain splitting and transfer

The current team is stepping in to investigate and push for the freezing of funds. A compensation plan is pending an official AFX announcement.
