🇺🇸 US House Passes Congressional Stock Trading Ban Bill

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Stop Insider Trading Act in a 232–198 vote, advancing legislation aimed at restricting stock trading by members of Congress and their immediate families.
Key points:
• Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children would be barred from purchasing individual publicly traded stocks.
• Existing stock holdings can be kept, but any sale would require 7–14 days' advance public notice.
• Violations would carry a penalty of at least $2,000 or 10% of the transaction value (whichever is greater), along with forfeiture of any profits.
• The House passed version does not apply to the President or Vice President, a provision that has sparked debate.
The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate, where it is expected to need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster and advance. Its future remains uncertain as lawmakers continue to debate the scope of the legislation
