Bitcoin mining pool Foundry launches a vote, and miners will decide whether to support the BIP-110 proposal

July 22 news: Foundry USA, one of the largest Bitcoin mining pools, is inviting its miner customers to vote to decide whether the pool will support the BIP-110 Bitcoin improvement proposal. BIP-110 is a soft-fork proposal that is being heavily debated, aiming to reduce the amount of data that can be stored in Bitcoin transactions, in order to limit the usage of block space on the Bitcoin network by non-monetary transactions, including Ordinals (inscriptions). Foundry said it has provided relevant proposal briefing materials to its miner customers, and the voting window will close at Bitcoin block height 961,632, with an expected timing in early August. Miner customers can participate in the vote via a link received by email. BIP-110 is currently one of the more controversial proposals in the Bitcoin community. Supporters say the proposal helps reduce pressure on block space from non-financial-use transactions; opponents worry it could affect the openness of the Bitcoin network. Blockstream CEO Adam Back has publicly opposed BIP-110, saying the proposal could be used to freeze users’ funds. Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has also criticized the proposal, saying it could affect some normal transactions. According to Hashrate Index data, Foundry USA currently accounts for about 23.8% of the total Bitcoin network hashrate and is one of the world’s largest Bitcoin mining pools. Its stance on BIP-110 may influence future community discussions and the deployment process of the proposal.
