The United States seized more than $25 million in crypto assets involved in fraud, with the “Scam Center Strike Force” cumulatively recovering more than $800 million.
Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 22, according to Decrypt, the U.S. Department of Justice’s U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, together with the U.S. Secret Service, filed five civil forfeiture lawsuits with the court regarding investment fraud and “pig butchering” scams. The total amount of crypto assets seized exceeded $25 million, and victims were located across the United States and Canada.
Among them, the largest case involved about $12.1 million, with more than 200 victims. In Canada, the marked amount involved was about $10.4 million, covering 270-plus suspicious transactions; the other three cases ranged from $285k to $2.4 million. One of those cases involved the scammer disguising themselves as a “funds recovery intermediary” to carry out a second scam.
Investigators found that the money launderers were mainly located in Southeast Asia, and the IP addresses involved came from China, Malaysia, and Cambodia. This operation falls under the “Scam Center Counter-Force,” which was established in November 2025. The force’s cumulative recovered amount has already surpassed $800 million, and the five cases are still under ongoing investigation.
