Everyone wants to become the “tax-eaters,” but don’t be a taxpayer. Now young people rarely talk about starting a business.

This year’s college entrance exam admissions results are out: 985 universities lost out—early-admissions cutoffs blew up, police academy scores blew up, military academy scores blew up, and tuition-free normal students’ scores also blew up. 985s lost to government posts, and the entry threshold for government posts keeps getting higher.
In Jiangsu, China People’s Public Security University’s lowest admitted cutoff was 662 points, rank 2,666. Last year the rank was 2,700, so you could get into Southeast University.
In Jiangsu Police College, a provincial police school: for the physics track it was 643 points, nearly matching Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, crushing many 985s.
Zhejiang Police College’s highest score was 666, higher than Zhejiang University. 666 points—don’t go to ZJU; go to a police academy. Zhejiang Police Officer Vocational College is a junior college: the lowest score for female students was 634.
In Shandong Police College, it was 623 points, higher than Shandong University.
In Hebei, information engineering university went up by 102 points, Naval Medical University went up by 94 points, and Naval Engineering University went up by 88 points.
In Henan: information engineering university went up by 87 points, Naval Medical University went up by 91 points, and Air Force Engineering University went up by 76 points.
Now let’s talk about tuition-free normal students: in Guangxi Nanning Normal (a provincial normal university), last year it was 462, this year it’s 583, with the rank rising from 86,000 to 17,000. Hunan Normal’s tuition-free normal track is over 600 points. In Anhui, for the history track the lowest cutoff for tuition-free normal students is 620; for physics it’s 674. Except for Tsinghua and Peking, everyone else can get in. In Guangdong Lingnan Normal, an ordinary “double-non-first-tier” second-tier undergraduate school, the targeted tuition-free normal program is 611 points.
The “985” brand isn’t worth anything anymore in front of government headcount/established positions.
A netizen said: a civil servant making 8,000 yuan a month is equivalent to a central/state-owned enterprise employee making 15,000 yuan a month, which is equivalent to a private enterprise employee making 30k yuan a month, which is equivalent to a self-employed individual business owner making 50k yuan a month.
Most people say the college entrance exam basically locks in an iron rice bowl in the system: apply directly to early-admission programs that provide package admissions, and even get assigned a rank within early admissions.
First: Beijing Electronic Science and Technology School. Second: Police academy. Third: Shanghai Customs College. Fourth: Tuition-free normal students. Fifth: Military academies. Sixth: Judiciary academies. Seventh: Directed medical programs. $H
