#夏日创作营 Trump is reportedly set to roll out new tariff policy as soon as this week: tariffs of 10% to 12.5% are to be imposed on 60 countries and regions under the so-called “forced labor” pretext
A CCTV reporter learned on the 21st local time that U.S. President Trump will soon impose new tariffs on dozens of countries this week.
On the same day, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer hinted in an interview that the U.S. federal government will soon introduce a new tariff policy to replace the 10% global import tariff that is set to expire. Greer said he cannot provide a specific timeline for when the new tariff policy will be released, and that before formal announcement, it must be notified to Congress and other relevant stakeholders.
Greer said the U.S. government is expected to, under Article 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, impose tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on 60 countries and regions in the name of so-called “forced labor,” to replace the global import tariffs due to expire.
Earlier, on June 2, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative issued an announcement saying the U.S. plans to impose 10% or 12.5% tariffs on 60 economies on the grounds of “not banning imports of forced labor products,” which drew widespread opposition from trade partners.
On February 20 this year, U.S. President Trump announced that, under Article 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, a 10% global tariff would be levied on all countries for 150 days.
