I got caught off guard yesterday on Bitcoin, and it’s still bothering me slightly. My initial short entry around 65,400 got swept right before price rolled back down into range—a classic breakeven stop hunt engineered to shake out early position holders. But instead of walking away frustrated, I re-entered another short leg after midnight once I saw the volume profile completely dry up on the push back higher.
Everyone is talking about how resilient BTC looks right now despite the escalating headlines around the U.S.-Iran conflict, but looking closely at the order flow tells a very different story. We are grinding up towards 65,800 without any real spot volume backing the move. When price climbs into resistance on shrinking volume while geopolitical tension dominates the media, that usually isn't genuine institutional accumulation. It's market makers squeezing late retail shorts to build liquidity before a distribution phase.
Technically, the setup is signaling a mean-reversion move. The daily Bollinger Bands are tightening into a squeeze, and while the KDJ indicator pulled into a golden cross on the lower timeframes, MACD volume is noticeably flat. The buyers are running on empty fumes here. Chasing this breakout offers terrible risk-to-reward, whereas fading the low-volume pump offers massive asymmetric upside once the exhaustion sets in.
Here is my 7.21 execution plan for BTC:
**Short Setup:**
* **Entry Zone:** 65,400 – 65,800
* **Invalidation/Stop Loss:** 66,500 (defending above local high)
* **Primary Targets:** 64,500 | 64,000 | 63,500 | 63,000
* **Extended Targets:** 62,500 | 62,000 | 61,500
**Long Contingency Setup:**
* **Pullback Entry Zone:** 61,000 – 61,500 (only if we flush liquidity into this demand zone)
* **Invalidation/Stop Loss:** 60,000
* **Upside Targets:** 62,500 | 63,000 | 63,500 | 64,000 | 64,500
I’m staying patient on my midnight short position and trailing stops aggressively as targets hit. Chasing longs into overhead supply for a tiny piece of upside feels reckless when the real risk-reward lies in catching the flush back down to key support levels.
Are you buying this low-volume push into resistance, or are you sitting back waiting for the flush?
