“Ba Xian” opened at 8.3. I finally managed to watch it, and it’s seriously below my personal expectations. As an adult audience movie, it’s actually not bad, but it’s a long way off from something like “Nezha 2.”

But for kids, I’d be a bit worried. The story is basically a “Fast and Furious”-style animated film with a knockoff shell made using Chinese celebrities.
It starts with high-speed driving, then the team forms up to steal treasures. Most of the people in the team are there for one thing: making money—making enough money for a lifetime that you can’t even spend it all.
Of course, while trying to make money, they run into the villain. And the way they defeat the villain is that the protagonist group meets a shirtless older guy at a KTV. The guy is drunk, slings an arm around them, hands out a few business cards, and says: if anything happens, report my brother’s name—I’ll make sure it’s handled.
The money-making crew borrows the older guy to defeat the villain. In the end, the Jade Emperor finally shows up too—also a bad guy. He says: these petty human losers beat the war god—how can that be? Then he decides to bestow immortals status on them as “Eight Immortals.”
The values just don’t quite add up.
But the visuals and most of the characters are good. I feel that the team responsible for the visuals are real pros. The script, though, is too weak—the writer must have studied traditional Chinese culture too little, and their literary cultivation likely isn’t great either, but they definitely must love American blockbusters.
