Golden Finance reported that on July 22, high-net-worth individuals with financial assets of more than 10 billion won were also actively buying leveraged ETFs linked to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Among retail investors, the age group over 40 accounted for the largest volume of purchases of single-stock leveraged ETFs for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

The Seoul Economic Daily commissioned a major brokerage to analyze the portfolios of 25,000 high-net-worth individuals during the period from May 27 to July 10 this year. The analysis found that among the top five targets by net buying, three were single-stock leveraged ETFs linked to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. They net bought 1781 billion won worth of the “KODEX SK Hynix Single-Stock Leveraged ETF” and 1401 billion won worth of the “TIGER SK Hynix Single-Stock Leveraged ETF,” and additionally bought 1166 billion won worth of the “KODEX Samsung Electronics Single-Stock Leveraged ETF.”

Since the other two items among the top five holdings were also ordinary stocks of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, this indicates that wealthy investors have adopted a strategy of making heavy allocations to bet on “the two giants” of the Korean stock market.
