The Digital Chamber (TDC), a crypto industry organization, has filed a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in the United States, seeking to block the implementation of the state’s “Digital Asset Tax Bill.” The bill is scheduled to take effect next year and imposes a 0.2% tax on all crypto transactions, applying to entities headquartered in Illinois or with annual total revenue exceeding $100k. TDC argues that the tax violates the U.S. Constitution’s Commerce Clause, the state constitution’s Uniformity Clause and Due Process Clause, as well as the Internet Tax Freedom Act, and asks the court to prohibit the state government from enforcing the law.
