Rent feels brutal when you’re the one writing the check every month.

So it’s easy to look at a landlord and think, “They’re getting rich off me.”
But here’s what the rent payment also buys you:
You don’t need to come up with a massive down payment.
The roof starts leaking? Not your problem.
The water heater dies? Call the landlord.
A pipe bursts at 2 a.m.? You’re not the one paying the repair bill.
The property gets damaged by a disaster? You aren’t risking your life savings in the building.
Owning property comes with expenses most renters never see: taxes, insurance, repairs, vacancies, legal costs, maintenance, and the risk of losing money when things go wrong.
That doesn’t mean every landlord is fair or every rent increase is justified.
But before assuming every landlord is exploiting you, remember this:
You’re paying for the convenience of using someone else’s asset while they carry the financial risk and responsibility that comes with owning it.
That’s the trade-off.
