The government says homelessness is improving. Look closer.


Sydney CBD count came in 14% lower this year, so that’s the headline. The press release basically writes itself.
Now the rest of the state- Rough sleeping across NSW is up 75% since 2020. The biggest rise was the Hunter and Central Coast. Byron Bay of all places now has the most homeless people in NSW.
Crisis beds are 98% full and 28,000 people are sitting on the social housing waitlist.
Nobody got housed. They just moved, or got moved, away from the postcode with the cameras into the ones without them.
Fewer homeless people where the journalists are. That’s the only achievement.
We need to take better care of our own people.
