At the National Assembly, 81 votes against out of 360.
Emmanuel Macron said: « The Constitutional Council will rule first, then it’s time for action to make this measure concrete and protect our children online. »
The measure could come into effect on September 1, 2026 for the creation of new accounts.
For accounts that already exist, identity will need to be verified by January 1, 2027.
The deputy minister for digital affairs said that age-verification systems are already in place to limit access to pornographic sites.
And that services already exist developed by companies affiliated with the state such as France Identité or Docaposte.
