Egypt discusses with Hamas the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire

An Egyptian security official told reporters on the 9th that a delegation from the leadership of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) held talks with Egyptian officials in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, on the same day, focusing on arrangements for implementing the second phase of a Gaza ceasefire agreement. The unnamed source said that a delegation made up of senior Hamas officials confirmed during the talks that Hamas would transfer administrative authority over the Gaza Strip to the Gaza National Authority Commission, and would agree to place weapons under the commission’s custody. The Hamas delegation also said it is willing to facilitate the work of UN peacekeeping forces and the Gaza National Authority Commission, laying the groundwork for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
