Wu Blockchain learned that Coinbase published a post-incident review on July 14, stating that a routine configuration update inadvertently caused the Istio ingress gateway in the production environment to become unavailable due to a resource name conflict, resulting in an approximately 50-minute platform-wide service outage. Retail and institutional users’ transfers and settlements, Coinbase Card debit card transactions, on-chain swaps on Base and Solana, and developer platform services were all affected. Coinbase said that queued transactions were completed one after another after services were restored, and customers’ funds were not at risk.
