$SPCX 's "price illusion": the $119 you pay might only buy you a lottery ticket
To understand SPCX's true value, first you need to recognize a premise that most people ignore—the current $119.85 "market price" isn't pricing SpaceX as a company; it's pricing the fact that only less than 5% of its circulating float is actually tradable.
Let's look at key figures: SPCX's total shares are about 13 billion, but the IPO released only about 4.24% to the public. The current tradable shares are just about 281 million. In other words, more than 95% of the shares remain locked in the hands of insiders and early investors. For every share you buy for $119, you're only bidding a marginal price on less than 5% of "artificial scarcity" chips—not the real fair-value anchor of this trillion-level enterprise.
The unlock schedule is the real pricing resetter:
Late July to early August (after Q2 earnings): the first batch unlocks, with about 11%-20% of locked shares becoming eligible to sell
August end: the number of shares that can be traded freely is about double the current amount
Late October (after Q3 earnings): cumulative unlocked shares reach about 1/3 of the total shares
June 2027: Musk's 42% stake unlocks
A veteran investor, George Noble, estimates that by early September, up to about 44% of the shares could be sold, and the circulating float could surge by about 900%. Meanwhile, current short positions already account for 29% of the float, and the market is already "pre-pricing" this upcoming supply flood.
So, the $119.85 price is essentially the combined result of a liquidity premium + a scarcity premium + a Musk-faith premium—and all three premiums will fade in tandem over the next few months. Measured by full dilution per share based on total shares, there is a huge gap between that value and the current marginal trading price.
When you think the unlock-flood truly arrives, where will SPCX fall to? $100? $60? Or $30—the level that the extreme bears are calling for?
