Why does BTC sometimes look strong, and other times ETH looks strong?

Recently, while watching the charts, has anyone noticed this phenomenon?

Sometimes when BTC pumps, the entire market’s sentiment immediately rises.

But other times when BTC’s increase is average, ETH actually starts to catch up, even driving a batch of altcoins to take off.

Many friends who just entered the space may be confused:

Aren’t we always told that BTC is the market leader?

So why do times when ETH performs even more aggressively happen?

Actually, the main reason is fund rotation.

When the market is just starting, funds generally choose BTC first.

The logic is simple:

BTC is the market leader, with the largest size and the best liquidity.

When many funds first enter, they don’t immediately chase directions with big volatility. Instead, they first position in BTC.

So you often see:

BTC pumps first.

After market sentiment stabilizes,

funds start rotating into ETH, the ecosystem, and popular narrative directions.

So in many cases, the market rhythm is:

BTC attracts the funds;

BTC consolidates;

ETH plays catch-up;

altcoins become active.

This is what everyone often calls a rotation-style market.

But many newcomers make an easy mistake:

When they see BTC rising, they think:

“ETH is about to fly next.”

When they see ETH rising, they think:

“Is it altcoin season?”

But it’s not that simple.

In every cycle, how funds choose differs.

Sometimes funds prefer certainty.

Sometimes funds prefer flexibility.

The key still depends on the current chart’s rhythm.

My personal understanding:

BTC is more responsible for leading the direction.

ETH more often reflects market sentiment and how active the capital is.

When the market shifts from waiting to actively participating, ETH often has better performance.

But there’s no fixed answer on exactly when the rotation happens.

Trading isn’t about guessing—it’s about following the market’s rhythm.

Are you focusing more on BTC or ETH lately?

Do you think in the next phase the capital will keep circling BTC, or that ETH will start catching up?
