The most expensive lesson in the contract is called “Don’t Just Stop-Loss”

Many people when they first start trading have a fantasy: wait a bit more—it will definitely come back.
What happens then? A small loss turns into a bigger loss, and a big loss turns into being trapped in a position. In the end, you don’t lose because you got the direction wrong just once; you lose because one mistake drags down your entire account. The harshest part of the market is this: it won’t bring the price back to your cost just because you refuse to give up. Especially in contracts, leverage amplifies not only profits—it amplifies risk too.
Real traders think clearly before opening a position: if this trade is wrong, how much loss can I afford? Instead of thinking about how much this trade should make. Stop-loss isn’t being timid. It’s how traders protect themselves. Losses aren’t scary; what’s scary is having no bottom line.
Many people get stuck for months or even years, and still comfort themselves: “I’m doing value investing.”
But in reality, you’re just being trapped by a bad decision. The money can’t move, and you can’t seize new opportunities. Trading isn’t about who can withstand more. It’s about who can control risk.
Remember: a small loss can mean you get to restart. But losing control can cost you all your opportunities. Protect your principal first, then wait for profit. Only those who can stay in the game long enough have a chance to get the good meat.
