Citi strategist says the liquidation of U.S. stock positions may not be over yet

Golden Finance News reported that on July 21, Citigroup said U.S. stock index futures are undergoing a position reset, but there may still be further room for closing positions. Strategists such as David Chew wrote that due to widespread de-risking triggered by recent sell-offs in artificial intelligence and technology stocks, U.S. equity positions have deteriorated sharply, and overall large-cap fund flows are trending bearish. Notably, the S&P 500 index’s position adjustment is mainly dominated by long position closures, while the Nasdaq index’s position adjustment combines more aggressive long position closures with the establishment of new short positions, bringing its positions to a low point in about a month.
