Wu Shuo learned that Grayscale announced the appointment of Sebastian Pulido, former head of institutional and DeFi business at Aave Labs, as Head of On-Chain Asset Management. He will be responsible for leading the company’s on-chain product strategy. Pulido previously helped drive Aave Horizon, an institutional-grade RWA lending platform, and has relevant work experience from Kinexys, which is part of Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan.

From Aave to Grayscale, this person’s track record spans traditional finance and DeFi, and it looks like Grayscale is about to make big moves with on-chain assets.

Grayscale’s latest appointment is very targeted. Pulido understands both Aave’s DeFi lending and banking-level compliance, perfectly addressing Grayscale’s shortcoming in on-chain asset management. Grayscale has already paved the way with its ETF push; now on-chain products need to be rolled out. RWA could be a key direction, but regulatory and liquidity issues still need to be watched.

The head of Grayscale’s institutional business for Aave was clearly looking to recruit/poach talent and bring that RWA lending playbook over to its own chain-based product lineup. Pulido’s experience at Goldman Sachs and Morgan lines up well with institutional needs—this move looks quite solid; let’s see whether they can channel traditional capital in.
