Deep Tide TechFlow, July 21: According to The Financial Times, U.S. President Trump announced that the U.S. will impose a broad 50% tariff on Canadian goods, taking effect 30 days later. U.S. officials accused Canada of unfair trade practices, including provinces halting purchases of U.S. alcoholic beverages, adding tariffs on U.S. automobiles, and discriminating against U.S. cheese. The scope of this tariff exemption covers energy, potash fertilizer, critical minerals, fish, and steel and aluminum products already subject to national security tariffs. Canada is the United States’ second-largest trading partner, and the two countries’ trade in goods totaled nearly $720 billion last year.
