BlockBeats, July 21: CoinShares, a crypto asset management company, launched a UCITS platform and simultaneously rolled out its first fund, the CoinShares Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF. It began trading on Tuesday on the Deutsche Börse’s Xetra. CoinShares said the core obstacle that previously prevented institutions from entering was the product structure: many institutions’ investment mandates restrict them from holding debt securities. The introduction of the UCITS framework will effectively lift this restriction.

The UCITS platform is a fund issuance and management platform based on the EU regulatory framework for Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities. It sets strict investment limits for fund products, requires risk diversification, liquidity, and information disclosure, to ensure investor protection, while also enabling the “European passport” mechanism, allowing approved funds to be freely sold across borders throughout the entire European Union/European Economic Area. When crypto asset managers such as CoinShares launch a UCITS platform, they package Bitcoin mining and crypto-related strategies into compliant UCITS funds or ETFs, making it easier for European institutions and retail investors to securely allocate to crypto assets through traditional channels.
