Starmer officially steps down as UK prime minister: My job is done
According to Golden Finance, UK Prime Minister Starmer delivered his farewell speech at Downing Street. He said, “My work is done. Over the past six and a half years, I have led our party out of the historic defeat of 2019, turning it into a party capable of facing the nation head-on, and winning an overwhelming victory in the 2024 general election. Since then, it has been the honor of my lifetime to serve you and this great country as prime minister. I believe that today’s United Kingdom is stronger and fairer than it was two years ago. However, what I will always remember is this: the most humbling aspect of this job is that you can sit in the front row and witness the greatest things of this country in action. Every day, you can see countless acts of resilience—resilience, perseverance, integrity, and compassion from those who serve the nation.”
Starmer concluded, “We must remember the greatness of Britain. When we debate how to solve problems, we inherit certain things from the character of the nation and the people, which give us confidence and make us believe we can make the country better. We can create a Britain where every child can go further based on talent, and where, if we do not surrender to division, we can unite different people under a shared banner. Therefore, as I hand the baton to Andy Burnham now, I wish him all the best. He has my full support… I thank the British people for the opportunity to serve. I leave with dignity. I leave with a smile. I am proud of everything we have achieved.” (Jin Ten)
