I think the biggest mistake in copy trading isn't choosing the wrong trader. It's expecting profits too quickly.

Many people copy a trader today and expect to double their money next week. When they see two or three losing trades, they panic and stop copying. But every successful trader has losing trades. Consistency matters more than perfection.
What do you think is the biggest mistake beginners make in copy trading?

The funniest thing I’ve ever seen was someone simultaneously following a bunch of traders—whichever ones are “doing well” (go red), they hop on—and it ended up costing them money on fees.

Choosing the right trader is only the first step; more importantly, can you trust his system—not just look at short-term gains and losses.

You’re spot on. A lot of people just want to get rich overnight by copy-trading for three days, then they bail the moment they see two losing trades. They never even think that trading is, in essence, a probability game.

Yes, the root of the problem is being too eager for quick results. I was like that at the beginning too. Later I found that as long as the strategy is stable and risk control is in place, once you get through the losing period, it’s fine.

The most annoying is that kind of beginner who follows someone for a month and then starts cursing. When the trader they’re copying pulls back 10%, they panic and cancel the copy trading, then they watch other people make money and come back again—only to get slapped in the face back and forth.

Every time I see someone in the comments say, “I followed for three days and lost 10%; this trader is a scammer,” I just want to say that person isn’t a god.

The biggest mistake beginners make is treating copy trading like an ATM, forgetting that the market has bull and bear cycles and that traders’ performance also fluctuates.

All beginners should first ask themselves: if you’re still losing after copy trading for three months, can you keep going? If the answer is “no,” then don’t get involved.

Copy trading isn’t an automatic money-making machine—it hands professional work to professionals, but you have to accept that they may make mistakes too.

My principle right now: first observe the trader for at least one month, look at his maximum loss and the profit-to-loss ratio, and then decide whether to follow or not.
