Iranian senior official: Mediator proposes a 10-day Iran-U.S. ceasefire to seek to restore implementation of the memorandum of understanding reached last month

According to foreign media quoting an Iranian senior official on the 20th, the mediator of the Iran-U.S. negotiations has submitted to the Iranian side a proposal aimed at easing the current situation. The proposal suggests implementing a 10-day ceasefire in order to seek to restore implementation of the memorandum of understanding reached between the Iran and U.S. last month.

On the same day, at a press conference, Baghaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Iran has received the proposal put forward by the U.S. and the mediator for the Iran-U.S. negotiations, but that the details cannot be disclosed at this time. He also said that Iran’s Minister of Interior will visit Pakistan that day to hold consultations regarding relevant matters between the two countries.

Baghaei said that negotiations and war are both means to achieve objectives, and that it is incorrect to say that “defense and diplomacy cannot go hand in hand.” Iran has never taken the initiative to violate the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding. The U.S.’s breach of its commitments has led Iran to take countermeasures, and Iran’s armed forces are retaliating against the United States, “doing everything possible to stop its crimes.”
