Russia’s gold reserves have fallen for six consecutive months, with a loss in USD value of over $26 billion



Data from the Central Bank of Russia shows that in June 2026, the currency gold reserves within Russia’s international reserves fell for the sixth consecutive month, with a decline of 0.4% (down 9.3 tonnes). As of July 1, the reserves totaled 73.4 million troy ounces (equivalent to 2,282.995 tonnes). At the same time, the value of gold reserves declined by 8.25% during June 2026, dropping from $325.87B on June 1 to $298.99B on July 1. The share of gold in international reserves also fell from 43.6% to 41.5%. For all of 2025, Russia’s central bank’s gold reserves decreased by 0.27%, while the value of gold reserves increased by 66.85% over the year, rising from $195.71B at the start of 2025. The share of gold in international reserves increased from 32.13% to 43.26%. In 2024 and 2023, the physical holdings of currency gold in Russia’s international reserves did not change, staying at 75 million troy ounces (equivalent to 2,332.76 tonnes).
