Meta Is Being Sued: AI Has First Taken a Seat in the “Layoff Trial”

26 Meta employees have filed a lawsuit recently.
They allege that during the layoff process, the company used AI-assisted systems to assess and rank employees, which unfairly affected people with disabilities and employees who had taken medical leave.
Meta denies the claim.
The company said:
Layoffs and organizational decisions are made by people, not AI.
But the real issue that’s worth discussing is already here.
When companies use AI to analyze work records, communication data, productivity, and tool usage, AI may influence who stays and who is let go—even if it doesn’t have final decision-making power.
In the past, employees faced a manager who may be biased.
In the future, employees may face a system that doesn’t know how to assign scores—and can’t explain itself.
AI doesn’t necessarily need to personally fire you.
It only needs to give you a lower score.
Do you support companies using AI to participate in employee evaluations and layoffs?
