> There are a certain kind of people in the market. When they start losing money, they become extremely cautious. They calculate and reassess every trade. Their stop-loss is also decisive. But the moment they begin making money, the whole person changes.
A few years ago, I knew a young man. When he first entered the crypto space, his account only had $20k. He was very careful. For every trade, he planned in advance. In less than a year, his account grew to more than $400,000.
Everyone said he had talent. Even he began to believe that making money was an easy thing. Later, he started to change. In the past, he only used 3x leverage. Then he felt it was too slow, so he switched to 5x. Later, it became 10x. The reason was simple: “If I can see the direction clearly, why not make even more?”
Slowly, he stopped setting stop-losses. He began to take heavy positions. He started to think the market would run according to his ideas. Until one day—an unexpected big bearish candle wiped out all his profits over the past few months. He didn’t exit.
Because he believed the market would bounce back. The result: the very next day, it fell again. The third day, it kept dropping. In the end, he didn’t just lose his profits—he also lost his principal.
Later, we talked about it. He said something that left a deep impression on me: “Before, I was afraid of losing money, so I respected the market. Later, when I started making money, I began to think the market should respect me.”
Many people think that making money will make a trader stronger and stronger. Actually, that may not be the case. The biggest test of making money isn’t ability—it’s mindset. The market won’t make things easier just because you’ve had streaks of profits. What it’s best at is reminding you what risk really is when you’re at your most confident.
So a mature trader never gives up their discipline just because they’re making money. What truly needs to be controlled isn’t the emotions during losses, but the overconfidence after profits. Because many people don’t fall in a bear market—they fall at the time they’re most glorious. #交易人生
