You can’t hold a position because you always treat your unrealized profit as if it’s already money in your pocket.

Have you had an experience like this too? You go long on a coin—just entered and it pumps 10%—and you’re so happy you start thinking whether you can use this money to buy a new phone. Then the price pulls back a little, and you immediately panic. You close the position right away, afraid the profit will fly away. After you finish closing, it pumps another 20%. You slap your thigh regretting it—but next time you still do the same thing.

Where’s the problem? You’re treating your unrealized profit as your own money that you’ve already received. But that’s not really yours—it's the market temporarily putting it in your account just so you can look at it. The moment you panic, your hand shakes, and you give it all back.

I have a fan who went long on ETH at 2200. When it rose to 2400, his unrealized profit was 900 USDT. He was so excited he took a screenshot and posted it to his朋友圈. I asked him where he set his take-profit. He said, “I’ll hold a bit longer and see.” As a result, ETH pulled back to 2350, and his profit dropped by a third. He panicked and came to ask me whether he should run. I asked him what his target was. He said he didn’t know. I told him, “Then you can only go by your feelings.” He hesitated for a moment and ran. Later, ETH rose to 2600.

He came back and asked me again: “Zege, shouldn’t I have run?” I told him, “It’s not that you shouldn’t have run—you shouldn’t have run because you didn’t have a plan at all. Before entering, you didn’t think through what price you needed to see. So when it's time to exit, you can only rely on panic.”

After that, I set some hard rules for myself: before placing any order, I must write down three numbers—entry price, stop-loss price, and take-profit price. If it hasn’t hit the take-profit, even if the King of Heaven comes, I’m not leaving. No matter how much it shakes in between, just let it—so long as it doesn’t break the stop-loss, just treat it as if you never even saw it.

Remember: you can’t hold the position not because your courage is small, but because your heart has no numbers. Write your goal down in advance, execute to the standard like an order you must follow—you’ll find that holding a position isn’t that hard.
