Canada urgently upgrades border controls nationwide to prevent the cross-border introduction of the Ebola virus

Canadian authorities issued a new entry restriction order effective immediately, adding mandatory health declarations and rapid screening on arrival for travelers from Africa’s affected areas. It also suspends some high-risk route flights, while raising the epidemic-prevention level at border ports. This is the strongest public-health early-warning measure in North America in nearly two years, triggering multiple countries to follow suit by tightening their border policies. #病毒MEME

Ebola has a high fatality rate, but it doesn’t spread as easily as respiratory viruses—so strengthening screening is the right move, but don’t let it lead to excessive panic that causes discrimination against our brothers in Africa; just practice scientific prevention and control.

Canada’s response needs to be quick—hopefully it doesn’t end up like COVID where more was missed.
