U.S. mortgage rates rise to 6.55%, the highest since August 2025

US mortgage rates have risen to their highest level in nearly a year due to renewed escalation of tensions in the Middle East, reigniting concerns about inflation. Freddie Mac said in a statement on Thursday that the average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 6.55%, up from 6.49% a week earlier. The latest rate reached the highest level since late August. Mortgage rates have increased for the second consecutive week as US Treasury yields have risen; earlier, a temporary truce between the US and Iran fell apart, pushing up US bond yields.
