How big of a mess can you really cause just by going to work for one day?

A music teacher in Japan secretly washed clothes using the school’s washing machines, which ended up triggering a fire of over 200 square meters.
The government has recently allocated about 550 million yen to clean up the aftermath—this is only the first installment.
The teacher often secretly used the school’s washing machines to wash her own clothes, then took them to the music preparation room on the fourth floor to dry. She also brought her own electric heater and a circulation fan to dry the laundry.
As a result, the classroom caught fire, and the nearby music room was also burned. The 24 students who were in class were trapped on the fourth floor by thick smoke; they had to climb out through the windows and hide on the eaves while waiting for rescue. Eight students and three staff members were injured.
The children cannot attend classes at the school, and have been temporarily assigned to nearby schools. After September, they will also have to take school buses every day to an old school 3 kilometers away.
During her own escape, the teacher also fell and broke her pelvis. How much compensation she may have to pay is not yet known.
