According to CoinPost, the South Korean government has released a “Korean won internationalization roadmap,” planning to work on drafting a “Framework Act on Digital Assets” and to strengthen the legal basis for the issuance, circulation, and cross-border capital flows of won-denominated stablecoins. The Bank of Korea will also advance a pilot for government bond tokenization linked with institutional CBDCs, and by participating in the Bank for International Settlements’ Project Agora, further enhance the digital cross-border settlement system.

South Korea is making this move very steadily—CBDC legislation is keeping pace, following the rhythm of a digital finance leader.

Stablecoin compliance issuance is a pain point; if South Korea can build a legal framework, the impact on cross-border payments could be far more than just a little bit.
