On July 13, U.S. President Trump said at the White House that in its conflict with Iran, the United States should be compensated by “the countries we’re helping.” He also named several U.S. Middle East allies at the same time. In response to questions from the media, Trump said the United States is protecting a very wealthy region in the world: “We are spending… we will be compensated for providing protection.” He said the U.S. has done “very effectively” in protecting Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
